Colonisation is a topic in which requires a real discussion that explores our understanding of the impact of the looting of natural resources and how it has lead to the current circumstances of less developed countries to be frozen in poverty, destitute of opportunity as crime and corruption overwhelm any attempts to address these issues. Their mineral rich land cherry picked by the west with little to prevent the destabilisation of this continent. What is taking place here is overwhelming and overlooked and ignored. Colonisation continues to exist to this day and the continent of Africa is that proof.
Over 6.1 million Americans are forbidden to vote because of felony disenfranchisement, or laws restricting voting rights for those convicted of felony-level crimes. The number of disenfranchised individuals has increased dramatically along with the rise in criminal justice populations in recent decades, rising from an estimated 1.17 million in 1976 to 6.1 million in 2016. I created a visual identity which is playful and engaging for a target audience of between 6-11 years of age through a bright and colourful logo.
I received a brief to design an indian female character, this was for a creative education company that makes books, cartoons etc seeking to tackle the lack of diverse representation within children’s books. It is a topic i am passionate about and was keen to create a strong female character lead.
There are currently around only 4% of children’s books that have a BAME character as the lead role. It is having a big impact as is evident from the news article where it showed a black boy as little as 4-5 asking his mum could she paint him white because he wanted to be a white boy.
Another case i think every creative should see is the doll test which really makes you feel emotional seeing such young children’s impact to lack of diverse representation in the world they live and grow up in. I guess its up to us to try make a dent in a over whelming white industry
In london there are less then 5% of ethnic minorities in the creative sector a city made up of over 40% ethnic minorities.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, —and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor even eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
